The Kevo Canyon is one of Finland’s most striking natural wonders. It can be experienced along a 63-kilometer hiking trail that runs both along the canyon floor and its dramatic rim. In the nature reserve’s gorge area, skiing is permitted from October 16 to March 31, and hiking on marked trails from June 15 to October 15. In the surrounding fell area, skiing is allowed from October 16 to April 30, and hiking on marked routes from May 1 to October 15.
From Sulaoja, you can hike to Kuivi year-round, but the full 86-kilometer circular route that passes through the canyon is open only from June 15 onward.
The updated map covers the entire Paistunturi Wilderness Area and, by popular request from paddlers, extends along the Teno River from Karigasniemi to the Utsjoki branch, as well as from Kenesjärvi to the confluence with the Teno. Paddling on the Kevojoki is prohibited, as it lies within the nature reserve.
Calazo maps are produced using precise laser scanning data, offering exceptional detail and accuracy in terrain and elevation. Printed on high-quality Tyvek material, the maps are fully waterproof and tear-resistant, eliminating the need for protective covers. The manufacturer guarantees the material can endure up to 20,000 folds. Thanks to the clever sheet layout, all key destinations in the area fit neatly on a single map.
