The Pöyrisjärvi Wilderness is an ideal destination for both day hikers and seasoned backpackers seeking solitude and adventure. Marked trails are concentrated between Hetta and Näkkäläjärvi, while elsewhere in the fells you can follow unmarked paths or simply roam freely through the open landscape. A comprehensive network of trails has also been designed for mountain bikers.

Of the rivers flowing through the wilderness, the Pöyrisjoki offers challenging conditions with sections unsuitable for paddling, while the Käkkälöjoki is better suited to beginners and those developing their canoeing skills.
