Durston X-Dome 2

Price range: 667,90 € through 686,50 €

Weight: 1250 g

Durston X-Dome 2 is the most anticipated new tent for 2025. Designed from first principles, with the meticulous attention to detail that defines Durston, it combines the proven rectangular X-Mid floorplan with a fully freestanding dome structure. The result is a tent that delivers outstanding space, weather protection, and simplicity at ultralight weight.

The patented X-Dome architecture uses a structurally efficient pole system where a single continuous spine arch replaces multiple shorter poles. This design is both stronger and lighter, maximizing stiffness while minimizing bulk. Premium Easton carbon fibre poles enhance rigidity and reduce weight compared to aluminum.

Inside, the X-Dome 2 offers class-leading livability. The nearly vertical walls, 110 cm peak height, and rectangular 130 × 224 cm floor provide a truly spacious two-person interior that easily fits two wide sleeping pads.

Lightweight, strong, and exceptionally wind-resistant, the X-Dome 2 represents a new benchmark for ultralight freestanding tents.

Durston X-Dome 2

The X-Dome 2 is an ultralight, fully freestanding two-person tent that redefines space, protection, and simplicity at minimal weight. It merges the efficient geometry of the X-Mid base design with an optimized pole structure, delivering exceptional volume and wind resistance for its category. The result is a spacious, weather-resistant shelter that weighs only 1.25 kg.

Spacious Design

Unlike many cramped ultralight tents, the X-Dome 2 is a true two-person shelter. Its 130 cm-wide floor fits two full-size sleeping pads without overlap, while the 224 cm length and nearly vertical end walls provide full usability even for tall hikers.

The generous 110 cm peak height is up to 15 cm higher than comparable model, which creates a remarkably open interior. Thanks to the full length crossbar and optimized geometry, both the side and end walls stand almost vertical, yielding 20–40% more usable interior volume than competing tents.

Two large vestibules (0.83 m² each) provide ample space for packs, shoes, and cooking gear. Every detail is designed for livability, from the vertical doors to the expansive headroom and storage pockets.

Protective in Harsh Weather

The X-Dome 2 is built to withstand demanding conditions. Its structural integrity comes from lightweight yet exceptionally strong large-diameter Easton carbon fibre poles, offering better wind resistance than typical ultralight tents. When needed, trekking poles can be added as third supports for increased rigidity during heavy wind or snow.

The tent’s weatherproofing is advanced. The silpoly fly fabric resists stretching when wet and dries quickly, maintaining a taut pitch in all conditions. The “fly-first” setup keeps the inner tent dry during rain, while the double-wall construction minimizes condensation. Low-hanging fly panels block drafts and rain splash, and overhanging doorways prevent water from dripping inside.

Every functional detail enhances protection: tall, easy-access doors you can enter without touching a wet fly; large vestibules that isolate damp gear; and the fly geometry which sheds wind and rain efficiently. When conditions turn unpredictable, the X-Dome 2 remains a secure and comfortable refuge.

Simple and Intuitive

Ease of use is a defining principle of the X-Dome 2. After a long day on the trail—or in bad weather—you need a tent that sets up fast and intuitively.

Its rectangular footprint allows flexible pitching: set up the fly first in rain, the inner first in dry weather, or both together for the fastest pitch. The tent stands completely on its own, so staking is optional.

The doors are engineered for effortless access. Their diagonal zippers and vertical shape keep water out while allowing easy entry. Roll-back panels attach with magnets, and fly door zippers require minimal reach from inside.

User-focused details complete the experience: one-hand zipper pulls, side vestibules that don’t block the entryways, internal hang loops, four storage pockets, and a unified pole system with no separate parts to lose.

Premium Craftsmanship

Every aspect of the X-Dome 2 reflects meticulous craftsmanship and top-tier materials. Durston proprietary high-tenacity 15D silpoly fabric ensures stable performance in wet conditions and rapid drying. Premium Easton carbon poles offer unmatched strength-to-weight performance. The carbon poles are two to three times more costly than aluminum, but dramatically superior in stiffness and resilience.

The X-Dome tents are manufactured in a specialized factory experienced in high-end expedition shelters, using precision techniques such as high precision narrow seams, narrow seam taping, waterproof seam construction, generous double stitching, and double folded edges. The result is exceptional durability and long-term reliability.

At just 1.25 kg, the X-Dome 2 sets a new benchmark for freestanding ultralight two-person tents—combining light weight, spacious comfort, structural strength, and simplicity in a way never achieved before.
