Gossamer Gear Polycryo (polycro)

Polycryo, also known as polycro, is the lightest ground sheet available. Made from transparent cross-linked polyolefin, this material is exceptionally durable for its thickness. Although it may resemble standard plastic sheeting, its reinforced structure makes it significantly stronger.

A classic choice among ultralight backpackers, polycryo has been our go-to ground sheet for years when camping with a tarp. Measuring 183 x 244 cm, it provides ample coverage while remaining incredibly lightweight and compact when packed. It is also an excellent alternative to traditional tent footprints, offering a much lighter and more affordable option without compromising functionality.

Our tips: Despite its delicate appearance, polycryo is surprisingly tough and easy to use. Clearing sharp sticks from the ground before setting it up helps maintain its durability. If a tear occurs, it can be easily repaired with duct tape, extending its lifespan. Due to its ultralight nature, polycryo may shift in the wind, so placing a few rocks or pieces of gear on the corners will help keep it in place. Whether used as a tarp ground sheet or as a lightweight replacement for a tent footprint, polycryo is a reliable choice for minimalist backpackers.
