Gossamer Gear The Free is a new ultralight one-person dome tent. Fully freestanding and true to its name, it can be pitched without stakes and is an excellent choice for rocky terrain, island and archipelago camping, bikepacking, and backpacking.

The Free is an exceptionally lightweight double-wall shelter that does not require stakes to stand. Its weight is just 845 g in trail configuration, with a total system weight of 936 g including stakes and packing accessories. Despite its minimal weight, it delivers reliable weather protection and fast, intuitive setup.

Constructed with durable ClearSkies™ fabric, The Free provides excellent waterproof performance relative to its weight. Combined with DAC aluminum poles and a simple, user-friendly structure, it offers a stable, quick-pitching shelter in a highly compact form.

The tent is constructed from Gossamer Gear’s proprietary ClearSkies™ fabric, featuring 15D recycled Robic nylon reinforced with a 20D dope-dyed ripstop grid. Combined with a PFAS-free SIL/PU coating, the fabric delivers exceptional strength, UV stability, tear resistance, and outstanding waterproof performance for its weight. The structure is supported by premium DAC NFL 8.7 mm aluminum poles with eco green anodizing, a more environmentally responsible finishing process that reduces harmful chemicals, uses less water during production, and improves durability.

The Free is designed for fast and intuitive setup. A central swivel hub and snap-on attachment system simplify assembly, while color-coded aluminum corner hardware helps ensure correct pole placement every time. The package includes six aluminum stakes, four guylines, a pole repair sleeve, a stuff sack, and a dedicated pole bag.
