The INCLEMENT Equipment Rain Skirt is an ultralight rain skirt designed to protect your lower body from rain and wind without the weight, clamminess, or restricted breathability of traditional rain pants. Its fully enclosed 360° construction provides protection from all directions, while the generous cut allows for a long stride and unrestricted movement on the trail.

The Rain Skirt is quick to put on when conditions change. Simply step into it and pull it up, or put it on over your head. The adjustable waist allows you to fine-tune the fit and wear it comfortably over different clothing layers.

Why a Rain Skirt?

A rain skirt packs smaller, weighs less, and is significantly faster to put on than most rain pants. The open hem allows warm, humid air to escape naturally, reducing the clammy feeling often associated with waterproof trousers.

The Rain Skirt is particularly well suited to hiking trips where rain protection needs to be put on and removed frequently throughout the day.

Who is it for?

The INCLEMENT Equipment Rain Skirt is designed for hikers and backpackers who value low weight, minimal packed size, and excellent ventilation. It can be worn over hiking pants, shorts, or warm insulating layers depending on the season.

Fully Enclosed 360° Construction

Many rain skirts use a slit or overlapping construction to provide freedom of movement, which can leave openings where rain or wind can enter. The INCLEMENT Equipment Rain Skirt uses a fully enclosed 360° construction instead.

The generous circumference provides plenty of room for a long stride without requiring openings or overlapping panels.

This provides:

• Continuous protection around the entire lower body
• No slits or overlapping panels
• Unrestricted movement on trails and in rough terrain
• Fewer adjustable or potentially fragile components

The design has been developed and field-tested during long-distance hikes in Scandinavia and North America.

Why Doesn’t It Include a Stuff Sack?

The Rain Skirt intentionally does not include a stuff sack. Repeatedly compressing the skirt tightly can put unnecessary stress on the waterproof coating, so it is best transported and stored loosely rolled or folded.

When folded, the Rain Skirt forms a flat package that fits easily into a backpack pocket and, depending on the size, even into a large shell jacket pocket.

Will My Legs Get Wet?

The Rain Skirt protects the thighs and knees but does not fully cover the lower legs or footwear. The best footwear choice depends on the conditions and personal preference.

In warm conditions, the Rain Skirt works particularly well with non-waterproof trail running shoes, allowing water to drain quickly from the footwear. In cold and wet conditions, rubber boots provide more comprehensive protection and work well with the Rain Skirt. With hiking boots, waterproof gaiters can help prevent water from entering the footwear.

During prolonged rain, strong winds, or when moving through wet vegetation, the lower legs may still get somewhat wet. The Rain Skirt is designed to provide effective protection for the most important areas of the lower body while maintaining excellent ventilation and freedom of movement.

Materials

• Fabric: 100% polyester, 20D, 38 g/m²
• Coating: Silicone coating on both sides
• Waist elastic: Elastodiene, polyester

The fabric has been selected through field testing to provide an effective combination of waterproofing, low weight, compact packability, low water absorption, and reliable performance in wet conditions.

Sizing and Fit

The Rain Skirt is available in three lengths and two widths, giving six size options in total. The adjustable waist allows the skirt to be worn either at the waist or lower on the hips.

For the best combination of protection and freedom of movement, the hem should extend approximately from mid-calf to just above the ankle.

If you are between two lengths:

• Choose the shorter length if you wear the skirt on your hips or prefer more clearance around the lower legs.
• Choose the longer length if you wear it at the waist or want more coverage.

Lengths

• Short: 76 cm
• Regular: 84 cm
• Long: 92 cm

Approximate user height:

• Short: up to 169 cm
• Regular: 170–183 cm
• Long: 184 cm and above

Also consider leg length, natural waist height, and your preferred level of coverage.

Widths

Measure both your waist and the widest point of your hips. Choose the width based on the larger measurement.

• Standard: 110 cm circumference
• Wide: 135 cm circumference

The elastic waist can stretch approximately 5–10 cm beyond the stated circumference. For the best fit, choose a size whose stated circumference is no larger than your waist or hip measurement.

The Standard width may also work for slightly larger measurements, while the Wide version provides more room when wearing thicker clothing layers.
