Unmatched warmth-to-weight performance.

Katabatic Gear has built a reputation as one of the most respected makers of ultralight down quilts in the world. Every detail of their design is the result of meticulous engineering and thousands of miles of real-world testing. The result is a sleep system trusted by thru-hikers, mountaineers, and backcountry travelers who demand the highest standard of performance.

The Palisade 30°F exemplifies Katabatic Gear’s philosophy: precise design, premium materials, and flawless execution. A long, ergonomically shaped footbox and broad shoulder wings ensure full coverage and consistent warmth around the neck and upper body. Its differential cut construction allows the down to loft to its maximum potential, maintaining warmth even when the quilt is cinched tight. The elastic binding around bottom opening prevents cold drafts from sneaking in, while Katabatic’s patented pad attachment system keeps the quilt securely sealed to your sleeping pad, even when you move during the night.

Filled with 900 Fill Power RDS-certified goose down, the Palisade delivers exceptional thermal efficiency with minimal weight. The down is treated with ExpeDRY™, a water-resistant finish that helps it stay lofty and dry in damp, foggy autumn conditions.

Its continuous baffles allow you to manually shift insulation where it’s needed most—concentrate the down along the center on cold nights, or move it to the sides when sleeping in milder weather or a cabin.

The Palisade 30°F isn’t just another quilt—it’s a long-term investment in comfort, warmth, and performance. Designed for serious hikers and backcountry minimalists, it combines technical precision with the luxurious comfort of high-end craftsmanship.

Katabatic Gear Palisade 30F

The Palisade is a lightweight, warm, and premium-quality backpacking quilt designed to deliver restful sleep from early summer to the crisp days of autumn. Its innovative construction blends comfort, adjustability, and thermal efficiency, making it an ideal companion for both hikers and long-distance backpackers.

The quilt features a differential cut design, where the outer fabric is slightly larger than the inner lining. This ensures the down insulation remains fully lofted even when the quilt is cinched tight on cold nights, preserving warmth and efficiency. Many manufacturers overlook this subtle detail—but it’s one of the key reasons the Palisade performs so well in colder conditions.

Continuous baffles run from edge to edge, allowing the user to shift down manually to fine-tune insulation. On warm nights, down can be moved to the sides or footbox to vent excess heat. In colder weather, the fill can be concentrated along the center for maximum warmth.

A down-filled draft collar seals in heat without the discomfort of tight drawcords. This design shines in windy or freezing conditions, where draft protection is essential for quality rest.

The extended trapezoidal footbox offers more space for natural sleeping posture and improved comfort—especially for back sleepers. Overstuffed down chambers around the feet provide extra insulation, keeping your toes reliably warm through the night.

At the heart of the Palisade lies the patented Cord Clip system, one of the most efficient quilt-to-pad attachment methods available. Using the included 2 mm cords that wrap around your sleeping pad, the quilt clips securely in place with low-profile buckles. Two configurations offer flexibility:

  • Free mode: allows the quilt to move naturally for maximum ventilation.

  • Locked mode: creates a tighter seal against drafts while maintaining customizable width and loft.

The Cord Clip buckles are low-profile and durable, staying flat even when you move during the night. The system is fast, intuitive, and compatible with most sleeping pads—simply attach the cords before your trip, clip in, adjust, and sleep comfortably anywhere.
