The Protium Lite is Montane’s latest take on an ultra-lightweight waffle fleece, perfect for versatile adventures. Slightly warmer than its predecessor, the Allez Micro Hoodie, the Protium Lite can handle a few degrees colder temperatures before you need to add another layer. Despite the added warmth, it retains all the same key features: it’s thin, breathable, and wicks moisture exceptionally well, making it the perfect companion for use as a base layer under a windproof jacket in virtually any weather condition during three-season hikes.
This fleece is highly adaptable, functioning as both a base layer and a mid-layer. In fact, we find it works as a base layer directly against the skin about 80% of the time and as a mid-layer over a thin merino shirt the other 20%. Thanks to its super-fast drying capabilities, it’s often the only shirt you need to pack on a trek—by the time you’re ready for bed, it’s almost always dry.
The jacket version features a full-length zipper and handy side pockets, making it not only an excellent outdoor fleece but also a practical hoodie for travel or daily use. Whether you’re hiking, traveling, or simply looking for a comfortable everyday layer, the Protium Lite is your go-to solution.

In most conditions, a single Protium Lite and a jacket are all you’ll need. Its open-structure fabric ensures versatility across a wide temperature range:

- Cool Weather: Pair it with a wind jacket, leaving the zipper open.
- Cold and Windy Weather: Close the jacket zipper and use both hoods.
- Freezing Conditions: Add a thin extra layer underneath or over the fleece (the Protium Lite layers exceptionally well).
