The original NU25 was a highly popular headlamp, and when it was discontinued, many hikers missed its low-powered 1-lumen red light—perfect for campsite tasks where you don’t want to disturb others. Another cherished feature was the high-CRI mode, ideal for reading, particularly appreciated by long-distance hikers.

The new, perhaps somewhat confusingly named, NU20 Classic brings back these sought-after features from the original NU25, while adding several improvements: USB-C charging, a more compact headband, a powerful 360-lumen output, and modern energy-efficient LED technology.

The result is an outstanding and unique headlamp for outdoor adventurers. While the NU20 Classic slightly falls short of the NU25 UL in terms of brightness, it makes up for it with extra useful features for camp life.

Nitecore NU20 Classic

The Nitecore NU20 Classic is a modernized version of the original 2017 NU25. It is designed to be an ultra-lightweight headlamp, weighing only 38 grams. NU20 Classic is the perfect companion for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, with its versatile red light mode and high-CRI setting that enhances comfort and visibility in camp.

With five lighting modes in white light ranging from 1 to 360 lumens and color temperatures of 4500K or 6000K, the NU20 Classic offers a beam distance of up to 109 meters and a runtime of up to 2 hours on its highest setting. The NU20 Classic features two LED lights:

A 6000K white LED with three brightness levels: 1 lumen, 38 lumens, and 200 lumens, plus a Turbo mode at 360 lumens. It also includes SOS and beacon modes, both at 360 lumens for emergencies.
A 4500K white/red LED offers a softer white light at 20 lumens, ideal for less harsh lighting, along with steady red light options at 1 lumen or 13 lumens, and a flashing red mode at 13 lumens.

The Turbo mode delivers extra brightness for navigating in the dark, but for extended use, the lamp automatically adjusts to prevent overheating and to prolong battery life.

The headlamp comes with a reflective dual-strap band, increasing visibility during nighttime activities.

Powered by a built-in 500mAh battery, it recharges conveniently via a USB-C port. A four-indicator battery level display ensures you always know how much power is left, so you’re never caught off guard in the dark.
