A kilo on your feet is like five in your backpack, even in winter. Northern Lites manufactures ultralight yet durable snowshoes in Colorado. The Backcountry model is an all-purpose snowshoe designed for deep snow conditions, ideal for heavier users or those carrying a backpack.

At an ultralight weight of 1.27 kg per pair, the Backcountry snowshoes are about half the weight of standard 30″ deck snowshoes. The frame is crafted from strong 7075-T6 aluminum, and the deck features a mil-spec COOLTHANE®-coated nylon mesh. The two-part crampon is made from duralumin and includes an anti-ball plate to prevent snow from clumping underneath.

We selected the original Tru Trak bindings, the lightest and most proven option based on Northern Lites’ 30+ years of experience. Tru Trak uses three flexible straps, making it foolproof and easy to repair. Thanks to the flat Tru Trak bindings, these snowshoes pack more compactly than nearly any other, fitting snugly on a backpack or sled.
