The Sambob Basin Sun Hoodie is a featherlight sun layer engineered for maximum breathability and next-to-skin comfort. Built from an ultralight version of Polartec Delta fabric, it’s designed to keep you cool even in intense heat by efficiently wicking and evaporating moisture. The fabric has been carefully developed to feel smooth and dry against the skin, resisting that sticky sensation even during high-output efforts.
Despite its airy, mesh-like construction, the hoodie provides reliable UPF 15 sun protection. A deep hood extends coverage to the neck and temples, offering extra defense when exposure is unavoidable. Thanks to its exceptionally low weight, it’s easy to stash in your pack when conditions shift, yet it’s just as effective worn all day. It also works seamlessly as a base layer, pairing well with an insulating midlayer such as a Polartec Alpha hoodie when temperatures drop.
This is a unisex piece offered in two fit options. Wide is cut with broader shoulders in mind, while Narrow is tailored for a slimmer frame. Both follow a flexible sizing approach, so you can choose the fit that feels right for your body.
Each hoodie is handmade in Portland, Maine, reflecting a focus on craftsmanship and small-batch production.

The Sambob Basin Sun Hoodie is an ultralight hooded layer built for high-output days under intense sun. It delivers subtle yet effective protection while maintaining an airy, barely-there feel against the skin. Designed specifically for hot conditions, it minimizes cling without sacrificing performance, making it an ideal choice for long hikes, thru-treks, and other extended outdoor pursuits.
The relaxed fit enhances airflow and comfort, allowing the fabric to drape loosely and stay off the skin. A deep, well-shaped hood adds extra coverage when the sun is relentless, while a range of vibrant color options ensures it stands out on the trail.
At its core is an ultralight version of Polartec Delta fabric, engineered for cooling efficiency. With a UPF 15 rating, it blocks approximately 93% of UV radiation. The fabric features a fine mesh-like structure that actively wicks moisture away, boosts ventilation, and reduces surface contact with the skin. The result is a shirt that feels noticeably cooler, even during sustained effort in high heat.
Despite its minimal weight, the hoodie has proven its durability in real-world use, including extended backpacking trips. With proper care—cold wash and hang dry—it’s built to last over many seasons.

Very “airy” material, but unfortunately no proper weather to wear it outside yet. Order Narrow L size (I’m 184cm tall), usually I’m between M and L, but this shirt runs really short from the sleeves. Should have ordered narrow XL.
