Simond MT500 Waterproof Overgloves

Lightweight and durable shell overgloves designed to be worn over standard gloves, these waterproof overmitts provide reliable protection against wind and rain in demanding outdoor conditions.

Built with a 10,000 mm H₂O waterproof rating and fully taped seams, they effectively block water ingress even during prolonged exposure to heavy rain. The rating is tested according to the ISO 811 standard, which measures a fabric’s resistance to water pressure before leakage occurs. In practice, higher values indicate better performance in sustained wet conditions such as continuous rainfall or extended trekking in soaked environments.

The membrane is also fully windproof, preventing cold air from penetrating the fabric. For example, at 0 °C with a 20 km/h wind, the perceived temperature can drop to around −10 °C without protection. These overgloves significantly reduce wind chill, helping maintain warmth during active use.

When worn over insulating gloves, they create additional trapped air layers around the hands, reducing heat loss and improving thermal efficiency. Depending on conditions, this can provide a perceived warmth gain of up to approximately +5 °C.

Thanks to their ultralight construction, they pack down easily into a backpack or even a jacket pocket, making them a practical backup layer for changing weather. The palms feature reinforced grip zones to improve handling of trekking poles and gear, while an adjustable wrist closure ensures a secure fit and helps keep the gloves in place during movement.

Weighing only around 46 g per pair (size S/M), they are an excellent choice for hiking, trekking, and other outdoor activities where fast, reliable protection from sudden weather changes is essential.
