Durston X-Mid 2 Solid
The Pinnacle of Lightweight Tents.
The X-Mid series is engineered from the first principles to be lightweight, simple, and weather-resistant. The result is a double-wall tent that is exceptionally easy to use, spacious, and high-performing—qualities that have made it one of the most awarded tents in recent years.
The X-Mid 2 Solid uniquely combines ultralight weight, ease of use, durability, and weather resistance. Designed for demanding treks in exposed terrain, such as the Nordic tundra, it has also become a favorite among backpackers in Northern Europe and beyond.
Patented Geometry for Maximum Performance
The X-Mid design is built around a patented geometry that optimizes weight, simplicity, and functionality. This eliminates common issues with trekking pole tents, such as complicated setup, mandatory guylines, obstructed doors, and limited interior space.
With its storm-ready construction, the X-Mid 2 Solid is an excellent choice for everything from backpacking in windy Sarek to ski touring in the Canadian mountains.
Wind-Resistant Engineering
Many ultralight tents are designed for fair weather, sacrificing durability and storm resistance to minimize weight. This often results in thin fabrics, fragile poles, weaker waterproofing, and reduced ventilation or guy-out points.
The X-Mid is different. It balances ultralight weight with reliable all-weather performance, thanks to its optimized geometry that allows for more efficient use of materials and support structures.
The result is a tent built for extreme conditions, featuring:
- A dry-pitch system that keeps the inner tent protected from rain during setup
- A double-wall construction for superior condensation control
- Non-stretch polyester fabric that retains its shape even when wet
- Factory-sealed seams for complete waterproofing
- Large adjustable vents for airflow and moisture management
- A fully protective rainfly that extends to the ground
- Storm-resistant structure, reinforced guy-out points, and durable YKK #5 zippers
- Sheltered entryways to keep rain from dripping inside
Despite its lightweight design, the X-Mid offers the weather resistance of much heavier tents—without the bulk.
Designed for Simplicity and Speed
When the weather turns, you don’t want a complicated setup. That’s why the X-Mid is built for effortless pitching. With only four required stakes, no mandatory guylines, and an intuitive shape, the tent can be set up in under a minute. The trekking poles can be placed without precise measuring, making the process even faster.
Once pitched, the tent remains incredibly user-friendly. The poles are positioned away from the doorways, vestibules are spacious and practical, and smart design features—such as magnetic door toggles, intuitive storage pockets, and smooth, one-handed zippers—enhance everyday usability.
Spacious Interior – Even for Tall Hikers
The X-Mid’s geometrically optimized structure maximizes interior space. Its sloped roof and rectangular floor shape allow trekking poles to be positioned farther apart, increasing headroom and usable space.
The result is a well-proportioned one-person tent with generous headroom throughout. You can comfortably sit upright anywhere inside and transition from lying down to sitting without touching the walls.
The diagonal ridgeline creates an asymmetrical distribution of space inside the tent. One side offers generous headroom, making it suitable for people up to 193 cm, while the other side has a more typical height, accommodating users up to 183 cm.
For solo use, the tent provides exceptional space for tall hikers due to its parallelogram-shaped floor, which creates an extra-long diagonal. Because of this design, we recommend the tent for solo users up to 213 cm.
How Does the Solid Version Differ from the Standard X-Mid?
The primary difference is the inner tent fabric. Instead of mesh, the X-Mid 2 Solid features a 15D ripstop fabric, providing:
- Improved wind protection and insulation in cold conditions
- Better resistance to blowing snow and side-driven rain
- A solid roof panel to prevent condensation from dripping inside
However, mesh panels remain in the upper door sections to maintain ventilation and visibility.
Other structural upgrades make the Solid version even more capable in extreme conditions, including:
- Premium, non-stretch guy lines for added stability
- Upgraded YKK #5 zippers for enhanced durability (compared to #3 on the standard model)
- Reinforced anchor points for added strength
The Solid model also features a darker Alpine Sage color, blending naturally into alpine and forest environments.
