Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Nano Poncho is an excellent choice to ensure full waterproofness. You don’t have to worry about longevity of the DWR like with shell jackets. With the silnylon fabric, the water stays out reliably.
The ventilation is good because of the loose fit. Back length is long, so you can wear the poncho over a backpack. This is the best way to wear it in intermittent rain, as you don’t have to take off your pack plus the pack straps stay dry.
The weight is impressive 145 g, which means that the poncho is lighter than large majority of shell jackets. Packed size is tiny, so the poncho is not on the way on treks with low probability for rain.
You shouldn’t confuse this product with fragile disposable rain ponchos. The Sea to Summit product is well thought out, and the Nano Poncho has details such as the well designed hood that take it to another level compared to cheaper products.
The Ultra-Sil Nano Poncho was designed to cover you and your backpack while retaining a tiny packed size and remaining extremely light. Made with our 15D Ultra-Sil Nano fabric with fully taped seams, this poncho is ideal for use in hot climates where a regular raincoat just won’t offer enough ventilation. Large size allows layering of the poncho on top of insulated jacket. This helps on cold and rainy evenings, as you don’t want to get your down jacket wet. Breathes through the opening at the bottom (the fabric itself is non-breathable but highly waterproof).
