The Pa’lante Joey is an ultralight fastpacking pack born from a legendary double FKT on the Appalachian Trail in 2017. That year, Joey Campanelli and Joe “Stringbean” McConaughy set simultaneous speed records running in opposite directions—northbound and southbound—each relying on an early prototype of this pack. Years of refinement have shaped that original design into what is now the Pa’lante Joey.
Purpose-built for multi-day fastpacking, the Joey is uncompromising in its performance. Designed to ride above the hips, it features vest-style shoulder straps for stable, bounce-free carry that doesn’t interfere with your stride.
Unlike boxier trail running packs, the Joey has a subtly tapered lower profile that offers a sleek and aerodynamic fit. It also includes Pa’lante’s signature bottom stash pocket—ideal for storing high-access items like snacks or soft flasks during long pushes on the trail.
With its streamlined silhouette and close fit, the Joey transitions surprisingly well to everyday use, making it a capable and compact pack for light carry around town or on quick outings.
Pa’lante Joey
Joey is a vest-style backpack designed for multi-day fastpacking adventures. Its shoulder straps are strategically crafted to carry water bottles on the front, effectively balancing the load. The shoulder straps have room for two collapsible bottles and small essentials. Constructed from double-layered 3D mesh padding, the shoulder straps are flexible and contour to the shoulders.
The backpack has a 24-liter capacity (internal volume), which we believe is just right for fastpacking. Larger packs can easily become too heavy and sway too much for running, while smaller ones may not accommodate overnight gear and food. Joey stays snug against your back. With all pockets filled, Joey holds approximately 30 liters.
